Psalms 40:2 (NKJV)
2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.

It would seem that the greater the depth of the pit and the mire of the clay, the better the story and the more powerful the extraction. What is most important, however, is not where we've come from but where we've all been placed together on solid rock to have every step established in righteousness. Whether we were the worst and most extreme transgressors or the ones who were really trying to do everything right, it took the same price and power to extract us from the same claim of sin and death. Leaving the past completely and its identity with darkness, no matter the shade, will make way for a whole new story of redemption to a new walk and a new way. The more those old associations of people, places, and things are replaced by the Lifter of our heads, the greater will be His placing of our feet on the Rock with new identity and confidence. Letting what He's already done be the assurance of what we've become will free completely from any lingering claims of the pit and the clay. The back story may vary widely between us, but the rest will be the same - walking in His Light with the rewards of holiness and righteousness.  It's in Him that we now live, move, and have our being on the Rock that will not fail.
