Hebrews 4:9-11 (TLB)
9 So there is a full complete rest still waiting for the people of God.
10 Christ has already entered there. He is resting from his work, just as God did after the creation.
11 Let us do our best to go into that place of rest, too, being careful not to disobey God as the children of Israel did, thus failing to get in.2 Corinthians 1:20-21 (TPT)
20 For all of God’s promises find their “yes” of fulfillment in him. And as his “yes” and our “amen” ascend to God, we bring him glory!
21 Now, it is God himself who has anointed us. And he is constantly strengthening both you and us in union with Christ.
Since our union in marriage, we have been blessed with several homes where we began raising our family — in Oklahoma, California, Idaho, and Ohio. Each one held something precious and memorable as we experienced the fulfillment that comes from working hard and earning the means to occupy them. Though it was a blessing to hold their keys, each home ultimately belonged to someone else.
After a few years in Ohio, we were invited to dinner with friends who unexpectedly blessed us with a generous gift — one that would allow us not just to occupy a home, but to actually own one. We soon found a precious two-story house surrounded by trees, with a deck and open fields nearby where the kids could play. Because of a gift far beyond anything we had earned, the promise of ownership became possible. Yet even with that provision, we still had to lay claim to the gift by stepping into it and occupying it.
Throughout life, we may or may not do well in acquiring and possessing what we work hard to obtain. Much of what we have comes through labor, effort, and varying levels of success. But God has made a provision for us that far surpasses anything our own striving could ever achieve. What He gives is free — not earned, not deserved.
The only requirement is that we let go of our own efforts and activate the promises of life we’ve received in Christ by faith. Just as ownership required us to step into the home that was given, the promises of God require us to take ownership spiritually. The keys have already been given. When we enter into His rest, we discover strength, security, and an incredible peace that cannot be produced by human effort.
